Women, Infants & Children (WIC)

Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants & Children (WIC)
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) provides supplemental nutritious foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding support and referrals to health services and social services to participants at no charge. It is this combination of education, supplemental foods, and referrals to health care providers which allows WIC to make a difference. The WIC Program staff works with health and social services professionals to ensure the best health care possible.

WIC serves income eligible:

·         Pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women

·         Infants

·         Children up to age 5

Participation in the WIC Program leads to:

·         Increased likelihood of obtaining prenatal and regular health care

·         Reduced incidence of low birth weight and premature births

·         Reduced incidence of anemia

·         Improved diet

·         Improved immunization rates

·         Improved learning in school

·         Better cognitive performance

·         Better digit memory test scores

For over 40 years, WIC has been achieving its goal of providing short-term nutrition intervention and influencing lifetime nutrition and health behaviors.
