EDRS saves time and effort, as it
is available 24/7 from any computer with Internet
access. The electronic
filing of birth and death certificates is part of
WEVRRS, and the
Electronic Death Registry
System (EDRS) will go live in late August, for pilot
users. The system is expected to gradually be rolled out
statewide by 2008.
EDRS promotes uniformity in
cause-of-death documentation, which is supported by the
American Medical Association. This is expected to
improve the timeliness and quality of cause-of-death
reporting, as well as provide more accurate
cause-of-death data to disease surveillance systems.
