Data Warehouse
|
|
This is in its early stages of
development and will eventually consist of more than 35
health and related databases. These databases will be
extracted with common identifiers that will enable
matching and linking databases within the warehouse.
Matching and linking these databases will provide
valuable information that a single database is unable to
provide for standardized information for research,
statistical/analytical and programmatic purposes.
Extracted databases will also be available for State
Health Division and other health professionals within
the State, as well as through the Internet for national
access via the Nevada Interactive
Health Database. |

Professional Partnerships
|
|
Our office works closely with Dr.
John Fildes, University of Nevada School of Medicine
Trauma Institute (UNSOMTI) in various areas including
the Nevada Trauma Registry, Suicide Prevention Research
Center, pre-hospital care data, especially for children
and the crash outcome data. The Center also works with
Dr. Donald Carns and the UNLV Center for Health
Information and Analysis (UNLV/CHIA) in various areas
including hospital inpatient, Medicaid eligibility and
Medicaid claims data. For hospital emergency department
and outpatient data the partnership has been expanded to
also include the Nevada Hospital Association and
Intellimed International Corporation. The Center, in
addition, contracts with Dr. Judy Calder and the UNR
Center for Applied Research (UNR/CAR) to conduct the
State’s annual Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance
Survey (BRFSS) and produce numerous reports based upon
BRFSS data. Finally, the Center is working with Donny
Loux, Community Based Services (DETR) to develop a
Traumatic Brain Injury Registry, Dr. Carlos Brandenburg,
MH/DS to show the effect of chronic and communicable
diseases on the States’ mental health patients, with Bob
Loux, Governor’s Agency for Nuclear Projects with regard
to the impact of the Nevada test site and Department of
Energy activities in Nevada, and has plans to measure
health impacts within the Department of Prisons’
population. |

Technical Assistance
|
|
The Office works with other
programs and bureaus within the State Health Division
and the Department of Human Resources regarding
designing and conducting statistical/analytical efforts
and public health studies to meet the needs identified.
In addition, the Center provides statistical/analytical
technical assistance to local, state and federal
agencies, university and other academic researchers, the
media, and the general public. The Center’s technical
assistance develops and disseminates information
relevant to the health in Nevada that aids decision
makers in setting policies, managing problems and
identifying emerging health trends. |
