The Nevada
State Health Division participates in an
Agreement-in-Principle with the US Department of Energy
(DOE) to conduct oversight of radiological activities on
the Nevada Test Site and other DOE facilities in the
state of Nevada.
These
activities include:
Meetings with DOE officials with concern for
continuing activities, cleanup of radioactive
materials on the site, and other assessments of
public health impact from DOE activities.
Collection of environmental samples to evaluate the
possibility of radioactive contamination in water,
soil and vegetation, etc.
Participation in DOE activities to provide direct
observation and evaluation as activities at the site
are curtailed or otherwise modified from past
activities.
