(A) Following the
third anniversary date of the end of the calendar
quarter in which the requirements of paragraphs
(a)(2)(i) and (a)(2)(ii) of this section were completed,
the radiologic technologist shall have taught or
completed at least 15 continuing education units in
mammography during the 36 months immediately preceding
the date of the facility’s annual MQSA inspection or the
last day of the calendar quarter preceding the
inspection or any date in between the two. The facility
will choose one of these dates to determine the 36-month
period.
Modality Specific
Continuing Education
(C) At least six of the continuing education units
required in paragraph (a)(2)(iii)(A) of this section
shall be related to each mammographic modality used by
the technologist.
(#’s) Continuing
experience (24 Months or 8 Quarters)
(CEU’s) Continuing Education (36 Months or 12 Quarters)
Either of the
following options may be used to determine if the
Radiologic Technologist’s continuing experience
requirement has been met:
Option 1:
The inspector counts back 24 months from the date of the
inspection. For example, if the inspection were
conducted on November 10, 2004, the relevant time period
would be determined by counting back 24 months for
continued experience from November 10, 2004 to November
10, 2002. (#’s) Continuing experience (24 Months)
November 10, 2004 through November 10, 2002 (CEU’s)
Continuing Education (36 Months) November 10, 2004
through November 10, 2001
Option 2:
The inspector counts back 24 months from the end of the
previous full calendar quarter immediately preceding the
inspection date. For the inspection date of November 10,
2004, the relevant time period would be determined by
counting back from the end of the previous calendar
quarter, i.e.,
September 30, 2004 for the said case to October 1, 2002.
(#’s) Continuing experience (8 Quarters) September 30,
2004 through October 1, 2002
(CEU’s) Continuing Education (12 Quarters) September 30,
2004 through October 1, 2001
Option 3:
The inspector may also count 24 months from any date
between the inspection date and the end of the previous
full calendar quarter. This could be the case if the
facility’s records are updated to such a date, i.e.,
between September 30, 2004 and November 10, 2004, in the
above example.
(#’s) Continuing experience count back 24 Months)
(CEU’S) Continuing Education count back 36 Months)
FDA recommends
that the facility try to consistently use the same
dating option for all Radiologic Technologists providing
services to it. However, this is not required. |
