Music Therapist Licensure
|
|
Music
Therapists are now required to be licensed, according to
the Nevada State Health Division, Bureau of Health Care
Quality and Compliance. The change comes pursuant to
SB190 of the 2011 Legislative Session, sponsored by
Senator Mo Denis. The new revisions to Nevada Revised
Statutes establish standards for music therapists and
provide the public with information of who is licensed
in the state. |

Steps to Obtain
Licensure
-
Complete the application, the verification
form, the instructions for fingerprinting
and background checks and the civil
applicant waiver.

Submit the application, verification form
and all documents required to be submitted
in the instructions for fingerprinting,
including the civil applicant waiver to the
Bureau of Health Care Quality and
Compliance,727 Fairview Drive, Suite E,
Carson City, NV 89701 with a check or money
order in the amount of $200. A separate
background check fee will also need to be
paid as instructed in the fingerprint
instructions. It is important that these
instructions be read carefully and completed
as instructed.
Keep in Mind:

A license
cannot be issued until application is
complete (including the results of the
fingerprints and background checks).

Once issued,
the license is valid for 3 years.

Credentials
will be verified through the Certification
Board of Music Therapists.

A list of
licensed Music Therapists in Nevada will be
available to the public. This information
will only include first and last name, and
county of residence.
-
100 units of
continuing education will be required upon
renewal of license.
