Music Therapist Licensure

Welcome to the Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance’s Music Therapist’s licensing page. The 2011 Legislature declared that the practice of music therapy is a learned allied profession affecting the safety, health and welfare of the public. This site will provide you with the information you need to become a licensed Music Therapist in Nevada.

Licensure Application & Requirements

If you are a Currently Board Certified Music Therapist:

1.  Complete and submit the  Music Therapist Initial Application and Checklist.  (PDF)

2. Include the non-refundable $200 initial licensure application fee and all of the required forms and fees:

4.  Read and understand the statutes (laws) and Nevada Administrative Code (regulations) governing the practice of music therapy. The links can be found on this webpage.

If you are not currently a Board Certified Music Therapist:

1. You must complete steps 1 and 2 listed in the Currently Board Certified Music Therapist section AND

2. You must complete and submit with  your application the Non-Certified Music Therapist Supplemental Form  (PDF link) and all of the required documents.

3. Please review application and supplemental form for licensure requirements.

4.  Read and understand the statutes (laws) and Nevada Administrative Code (regulations) governing the practice of music therapy. The links can be found on this webpage.

Important Note

In order to renew your license, you must be certified by the Certification Board for Music Therapists at the time of your renewal and you must have maintained continuous certification for the previous three years.  If you do not meet this renewal requirement your renewal will be denied.

Information Made Available to the Public

If requested, the Health Division shall provide a list of the names of applicants for a license and licensees and the names of those whose licenses have been revoked or suspended.  To request a list please email mbonanno@health.nv.gov.  

Important Information for dietitians or music therapists that intend to open their own business

A sole proprietor (e.g., an individual who becomes licensed as a dietitian or music therapist and wants to open their own consulting business) or partnership must also obtain a State Business License or Certificate of Exemption by going to SilverFlume Nevada’s Business Portal at www.nvsilverflume.gov.
