The Healthy
People 2010 initiative is a national strategy for
significantly improving the health of Americans over the
first decade of the 21st century. The two volume,
Healthy People 2010, is published by the United
States Department of Health and Human Service. It
identifies health improvement goals and objectives for
the country, to be reached by the year 2010.
Healthy People
2010 Nevada utilizes selected objectives and focus
areas from Healthy People 2010 to provide
statewide data on the Health of Nevadans. Included in
the report are statistics on Nevada, statistics on the
U.S., baseline data and a 2010 target goal related to
that objective. Collecting, analyzing, interpreting,
dissemination and using health data is essential to
understanding the health status of a population. This
information has provided the framework for national,
state, and local health agencies and nongovernmental
entities to assess health status, health behaviors, and
services. Then subsequently, to plan, evaluate and
initiate health promotion programs.
