Child Health Assurance Program (CHAP)

As part of Medicaid, the Child Health Assurance Program provides Medicaid coverage to pregnant women and children under age six, including unborns, with income below 133% of poverty; and to children age six or older born after September 30, 1983 with income below 100% of poverty. It provides necessary medical assistance to these individuals who have no health insurance coverage and meet poverty limits, yet are ineligible to receive TANF cash benefits or TANF-related Medicaid. Those requesting assistance must complete an application for medical services and submit it to the local welfare office for processing. A decision is made within 45 days. Medicaid may be requested and granted when certain criteria are met, for up to three months prior to the application month.

Early Intervention Services (EIS)

Early intervention is a system of coordinated services that promotes the child's growth and development and supports families during the critical early years. Early intervention services to eligible children and families are federally mandated through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act.

Katie Beckett

This program provides medical assistance coverage for certain children under age 18 who have disabling conditions and live at home. This program enables children with special health care needs or disabilities to be cared for at home instead of in an institution. Only the childs income and resources are used in determining financial eligibility. The cost of care at home compared to the cost in an institutional setting is also used in determining eligibility. In order to find out if you and your child qualify for the Katie Beckett Waiver it is important to make an appointment at the nearest Welfare District office. They can assist you by providing more information and providing help in the application process.

Medicaid

The Division of Health Care Financing and Policy works to assist in providing quality medical care for eligible individuals and families with low incomes and limited resources. Services are provided through a combination of traditional fee-for-service provider networks and managed care.

Medical Assistance for the Aged, Blind and Disabled (MAABD)

Nevada Check Up

Nevada Check Up is a state Childrens Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides affordable comprehensive health care coverage to uninsured children of low-income families who are not covered by private insurance or Medicaid. Service is provided through a fee for service program within a managed care network. The goal of Nevada Check Up is to provide preventive and comprehensive health care coverage for Nevadas uninsured children.

Temporary Assistance For Needy Families (TANF)

The purpose of this program is to provide temporary assistance for the care of dependent children in their homes or in the homes of relatives by furnishing financial, medical and self-sufficiency services.

Those wishing to apply must complete a TANF application and submit it to their local Welfare Division office for processing. An eligibility decision is generally made within 45 days from the application date. The TANF application is also an application for Medicaid; therefore, Medicaid eligibility will be determined in conjunction with the TANF determination.

Social Security Disability Insurance Programs

The Social Security Administration provides two programs under which benefits are paid to qualified people with disabilities: the Social Security disability insurance program and the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.  For most people, the medical requirements for disability payments are the same under both programs, and your disability is determined by the same process.  SSI is a program run by Social Security that pays monthly checks to the elderly, the blind and people with disabilities who don't own much or who don't have much income. For eligible individuals, those who are receiving SSD/SSI may qualify for Medicaid coverage. To find out more about the Social Security Programs and what they can offer you go to the Social Security Insurance website.  Welfare District Offices or Welfare Offices
